Aloe vera is a species of succulent plant that since ancient times has be used for its rejuvenating, soothing, and even healing properties. Aloe can be grown in containers on the patio and brought indoors for the winter. It makes a nice ornamental plant but most gardeners grow it to treat burns as an herbal medicine. Long, tapering, succulent leaves with soft spines iwth occasional flowers on tall stalks with red to yellow blooms. Clear gel inside the leaf has an immediate soothing effect. Cut a leaf in half along the length and apply to inner pulp to the affected area.
