Shishigashira means “lion’s head,” hence the common name Lion’s Head Japanese Maple for this cultivar. Lion’s Head is upright and compact and reaches 7- to 15-feet in height. The green glossy leaves appear in the spring and turn shades of gold and crimson in the fall. This variety will be a talking point in any yard.  It is ideally planted as a specimen or in threes.
